ARPwave Provider Spotlight: Vital Core Recovery
Built by Athletes, for Athletes — and Changing the Approach to Recovery
At Vital Core Recovery in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, recovery isn’t treated as something that simply happens after training. It’s part of how athletes and everyday clients prepare, perform, recover, and continue moving forward.
Co-founded by former professional athletes Quinton Hooker, CEO, and Theo John, COO, Vital Core Recovery was built around a “for players, by players” philosophy. Their firsthand experiences with injury, rehabilitation, and the demands of high-level athletics helped shape a recovery facility focused on giving clients a more individualized and purposeful approach.
As Certified ARPwave Providers, the Vital Core Recovery team has made ARPwave Therapy an important part of that model.
Turning Personal Experience Into a Recovery Facility
For Hooker and John, the mission behind Vital Core Recovery is personal.
Both experienced the physical demands of competing at a high level and the challenges that can come with injury and recovery. John faced what could have been a career-ending knee injury, while Hooker’s experience recovering from an Achilles injury helped lead him further into the recovery and performance space.
Those experiences influenced the type of facility they wanted to create: one where every tool has a purpose and recovery isn’t approached with a one-size-fits-all mentality.
“We built Vital Core Recovery around the idea that every modality in our facility has to serve a specific purpose—we’re not collecting equipment, we’re building a system.”
Today, the multidisciplinary team includes ARPwave Certified Providers, a Registered Nurse providing clinical oversight and protocol compliance, NASM Certified Personal Trainers, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialists, Certified Recovery Technicians, and team members with advanced education credentials. The facility is also in the process of adding a licensed Physical Therapist.
Why They Chose ARPwave
When building Vital Core Recovery, Hooker and John wanted technology that could serve more than one role.
That versatility is one of the reasons ARPwave became an important part of their approach.
The team incorporates ARPwave across different stages of a client’s program, including neuromuscular activation, strength work, recovery, rehabilitation, and maintenance. Rather than limiting ARPwave to one type of client or one point in the recovery process, they look at how it can fit into the individual’s larger performance or recovery plan.
For an athlete, that could mean activation before competition, recovery following a demanding practice, or targeted work during rehabilitation. For another client, the focus may be improving movement, building strength, or maintaining function.
“A significant amount of what we do is maintenance and optimization: keeping the system working and flowing well so problems don’t develop in the first place.”
Working With Athletes — and Far Beyond
Located inside Hoop Habits, a basketball training facility in Eden Prairie, Vital Core Recovery naturally works with a large athletic population.
Their clients include youth and high school athletes, collegiate athletes, and professional athletes across basketball, football, and volleyball. The team frequently works with lower-extremity concerns, including ankle sprains, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, and athletes progressing through recovery following Achilles repairs.
But one of the things that has stood out to the Vital Core team is how broadly their approach can be applied.
Within the facility’s first six weeks, they worked with clients ranging from age 12 to 70, including competitive athletes, families, individuals with lower activity levels, and clients looking for additional support with ongoing physical limitations.
“The protocols scale; the population doesn’t have to be narrow.”
That experience has helped reinforce their belief that ARPwave doesn’t have to be limited to a traditional rehabilitation setting or a specific type of athlete.
Using ARPwave as Part of a Bigger Picture
Vital Core Recovery combines ARPwave Therapy with other recovery and performance technologies, including thermal and contrast modalities, PEMF, vibration therapy, compression, guided corrective work, and biometric scanning.
The key, however, is not simply having access to multiple technologies. It’s determining why and when each one should be used.
Vital Core also uses its V-Scan powered by MenlaTech™ biometric scan to monitor how clients respond over time. By combining objective measurements with the team’s observations and client feedback, they aim to create greater consistency and accountability within their programming.
“We can see how the body is receiving the work rather than guessing, track progress across the protocols we’re running, and show clients measurable change over time.”
For the Vital Core team, ARPwave has become one piece of a broader system designed to help them make more intentional decisions about each client’s plan.
Continuing to Find New Applications
Vital Core Recovery is still a relatively young facility, but the team continues to find new ways to incorporate ARPwave into its work with athletes and the surrounding community.
That includes everything from clients working through specific physical limitations to professional athletes incorporating ARPwave around practices and competition.
Just as importantly, Hooker and John want to continue learning from the larger ARPwave Provider Network. With the new ARPwave community and education platform now live, providers have another way to connect, share knowledge, and continue learning from one another.
“Across every age range and activity level, people feel the difference and they come back. We’re still finding new applications for it, and we welcome the chance to collaborate with other providers on what they’re seeing as well. For us, ARPwave has been a genuine game changer.”
Their approach reflects one of the strengths of the ARPwave Provider Network: providers can bring different backgrounds, specialties, and populations to the technology while continuing to learn from one another.
